We have lots of choice when it comes to eating food.
But can you imagine if you only ate one type of leaf, from one type of tree?
Meet the koala.

Fussy Eating
Eastern Australia
These forests in eastern Australia are home to eucalyptus trees, which means they’re also home to koalas!
The leaves of the eucalyptus tree make a delicious meal for these furry animals.
In fact, koalas love eucalyptus leaves so much that they rarely eat anything else!
And they don’t need to drink much water, as they get enough moisture from the leaves.
Eucalyptus leaves are poisonous to most animals, but not to koalas!
Their digestive system is perfectly adapted to this special diet.
But digesting these tough leaves takes a lot of energy.
So koalas need plenty of sleep – up to 22 hours a day!
When they’re not napping, they use their large hands and claws to climb from tree to tree.
Why? To look for more eucalyptus leaves, of course!
